Sumimasen

Last night Anthony and I went to a Japanese shabu-shabu place near Ring Road 3 East for dinner. When we arrived, the place was nearly empty, and that casted doubts on their food for Anthony. But my instincts told me that Beijingers won’t like authentic shabu-shabu, so this place must be authentic. And I was right; the food was great. The waitress confirmed my theory and said most of their customers were Japanese. Although most of the staff were Chinese, they spoke Japanese all the time, even amongst themselves, which added to the place’s charm.

What amused me most was, even after finding out that we were from Hong Kong, the waitress still kept saying すみません (sumimasen, or excuse me in Japanese) to us.

Oh, the details of the place:

FSG Board Elections

I am now officially running for a position on the Free Standards Group Board. My position statement has been sent to the election committee, and should be up on the FSG web site in the next few days.

Beijing

Still stuck in Beijing, perhaps until middle of next week. Howver I will absolutely be back in Hong Kong by next Sunday, as I need to attend my friend’s wedding on that day.

Beijing is cold. It is now -5°C, according to the GNOME Weather applet. The river just outside of our apartment has frozen over; I need to take a picture of that.

Just learned that foka is in Beijing for a while. I told ypwong that we definitely must get together someday before I leave.
